EncryptProtect Password Service |
One of the biggest vulnerabilities to any backup service is the
potential loss of backup passwords that are used to encrypt data. The loss
of a password could be the difference between being able to recover from
a disaster or complete data loss. Your data could be backing up
correctly for years, but if you lose the encryption password, all data
would be unrecoverable.
With EncryptProtect, we manage your passwords for you using our High
Security Password Generation and Protection, so in the event of data
loss, you will be able to recover your data.

How it works |
Definition: Cipher
- A single part of a multipart encryption / decryption algorithm
Definition: Encryption Key - A
unique sequence of characters used by an encryption algorithm to encrypt
data to prevent unauthorized access of the data.

When a backup job is setup, you will be asked
to provide an unique encryption key for the backup. This key is
normally provided by you to ensure your data is protected from
unauthorized access. Instead of creating a password yourself,
you would submit a request to us for a EncryptProtect managed
password. |

Once we receive your request, a unique high
security alphanumeric password is generated using a complex algorithm. The password is provided to you to use as
your backup encryption key. |

|
We do not store your password in plain text.
Your password is stored on our servers as a unique three piece
encrypted cipher that, using the correct proprietary decryption
algorithm, will decode to your password. |

|
|
Each piece of the cipher is stored separately
at three different data center locations for additional security. In
the event of a data loss at any of the three data centers sites, our
algorithm is capable of re-generating all lost ciphers, and then
in turn re-create your password. |

|
In the event that you need to retrieve your
password for any reason, we would retrieve the ciphers required
and would re-create your password and provide it to you. You
would then be able to retrieve your data. |

Our EncryptProtect Password Service is standard with all Managed Backup
plans, and is an option on the unmanaged plan. |
